More Class of 2009 Introductions!

Meet Julia!  She is another one of our Class of 2009 Senior Portrait Representatives from Gorham High School.  We had a great time last weekend meeting her and her mom.  Here are just a few of our many favorite captures from our session together.

Warm at Heart

Almost 400 people (including us!) turned out last Sunday for the March for Babies around Back Cove in Portland.   Though it was cold and really, really wet, our spirits were soaring as we united against the elements to help the tiniest of babies.

While it is too soon to tell for certain, early indications are that the Greater Portland March of Dimes chapter exceeded its goal of $124,000.  What an incredible accomplishment!

Happy early Mother’s Day to all of you amazing mothers!  Have a great day on Sunday.

Welcome Class of 2009!

As the Class of 2008 is preparing for graduation, we have already begun our work with the Class of 2009.

Meet Kayla!  She is currently a Junior at Gorham High School, and she will be working with us this year as one of our Senior Portrait Representatives.  We first met Kayla’s wonderful family last year when we took her sister’s senior portraits.

She's on the move!

This little cutie is one year old, and she's on the move - like most one year olds!  This is the third time we have photographed her over the last year, and she always has great big smiles for us.  Watching little ones grow and change is another reason we love doing this so much.

Here is one of our favorite pictures from our very first session with her.

The Word on the Street is . . .

Our customers love our custom designed portrait albums.  We recently delivered a custom parents’ album to clients who hired us to photograph their daughter’s wedding last Fall.  Today, we received a beautiful note of appreciation:

Thank you so much for putting the extra time and effort into designing our parents’ album.  It’s a beautiful, perfect remembrance of a wonderful day that we will cherish always.”

Creating custom portrait albums (whether it’s for a bride and groom, parents of a newborn, or a high school senior) really is a labor of love for us.  Receiving notes like this lets us know the time and effort is really worth it.

Here is a link to an album we created for a high school senior and her parents last year.

Aren’t these longer and warmer days of April great and so worth the wait?

She's Having a Baby!

One of the things we love most about our “job” as photographers is building relationships with our clients.  From the very first meeting, we want to start building the foundation for a relationship that will extend beyond our initial session well into the future.

These two very excited expectant parents were wedding clients of ours about a year and a half ago.  We loved working with them then – and we love working with them now.  We can’t wait to photograph their new baby boy once he makes an appearance in the next few weeks.

It's April 1st and we still have at least a foot of snow in our yard.  Hopefully, the next time we write, there will be some actual signs of Spring around here.

Until then,

March of Dimes March for Babies

Recently, Judianne had the wonderful opportunity to serve as the photojournalist for this year’s March of Dimes March for Babies Team Captain Kick-off Breakfast.  While the Greater Portland chapter has held many such events in the past, the committee had never been able to “record” them in any fashion due to the need to take care of their many other responsibilities.  It was our privilege this year to be able to provide these services.

Many of you probably know about this wonderful organization.  You may also be familiar with their annual fundraiser – Walk America – which is now called March for Babies.  We wonder, though, how many of you have been touched by the stories of the women, children, and families changed by premature birth?

As parents, we all have “challenging” days with our children – we can admit to that, right?  “Challenging”, however, has a completely different meaning for those parents affected by premature birth.  Days where mom gives birth at 25 weeks (instead of 40) to a one pound baby that has to fight harder than any child ever should just to stay alive.  That traumatic event, if the baby survives, will be followed by days, weeks, or months in the NICU.  For those babies strong enough to survive this initial ordeal, they may still face a long line of seemingly never-ending invasive surgeries just to stay alive.

Once you hear these heartbreaking stories from the people living them, you gain an appreciation for life.  You also gain an understanding why it is so important to support the work of the March of Dimes and its mission: to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality

March for Babies will be taking place all over the state this Spring.  The Portland walk is scheduled on Sunday, May 4th at Andover College.  For more information on participating in your local walk or otherwise supporting this amazing cause, please contact Jere Hoover via email at JHoover@marchofdimes.org or by calling (207) 878-1199.  This year's goal for the Greater Portland Chapter is $125,000.  Together - we can make a difference.

Welcome to More "In Focus"

Blog_draft_2_copy_2

Hello and welcome to our new blog - More “In Focus” with Demers Photography  – a spin-off from our quarterly E-newsletter.  Having a blog allows us to share information with you more often.  It also gives us a place to have a little fun with pictures, tips, contests . . . . whatever we are thinking of at the time.

We hope this will be much more interactive than either our website or newsletter in order to help you get to know us better.  So - be sure to bookmark our page and check back regularly to see what’s up.  You are always welcome to leave a comment to tell us what you do or don’t like or suggest topics for future discussion.  We, in turn, will make a commitment to you to enter new posts at least weekly – more frequently as time permits.

Until the next time,

Ron & Judianne
