July is here and so is summer, finally, so it seems like the perfect time for a blog post about getting wet. This post grew out of a crazy idea. You know . . . one of those ideas that you keep saying "No" to, but you just can't shake? Yup, it was one of those.
Our daughter LOVES softball. For the past two years, she has been truly fortunate to have one of THOSE coaches - someone who loves the game, is passionate about teaching the girls, is fair and respectful to all involved but who is not afraid to speak up and challenge a point, when appropriate. She is also great about taking assistant coaches under her wing and developing their personal coaching skills, too. As the team mom for the last two seasons, Judianne was in charge of the end of season gift for the coaches, and she really wanted something personal and heartfelt this year. A photo album of all the girls seemed like a good idea, but not just any photo album . . .
Judianne had long been thinking about taking pictures of our daughter hitting water balloons, you know, just for fun. How cool would that be? But you know what might be even better? Getting the WHOLE team to hit water balloons. Pulling that off without either coach knowing, especially when their daughters were on the team, would be impossible, right . . .?
Judianne tested her crazy idea with a couple of the other moms on the team, and they loved it. The rest, so they say, is history. We dragged the girls out onto the field early one very warm Sunday morning, and we were able to catch some really fun shots like this.
Isn’t it funny to see how they closed their eyes but still managed to hit the balloon?
Here are just a few pictures of the album itself. Judianne went old school on this one (no digitally designed album here) complete with personal note cards signed by each of the girls.
With the help of many, this surprise was a complete success. It was an extraordinary gift for extraordinary coaches.
Until the next time,
Judianne and Ron
