More "In Focus"

2010 Year in Review

As we get ready to focus our attention on the new year, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on and celebrate the year that just ended.  Over the course of 2010, we had the privilege of meeting and working with so many wonderful people.  We recorded the anticipation of expectant moms and dads as well as their joy when their baby girls finally arrived.  We celebrated the all-important first birthday, complete with cake.  We were able to glimpse into the future as we got to know so many members of the Class of 2011.  And, we were there for the first kiss as husband and wife.    

Thank you, everyone, for asking us to share in these very special moments.  

  

With a year like 2010, there’s no way 2011 can be anything but great.  We’ve got a lot of fun stuff in store, so be sure to stay tuned!

Going for Certification!

June is here and with it brings the beginning of our 6^th year in business!!  When we look back over those years to all of the moments we have been privileged to share, it certainly brings us a great sense of pride.  It’s also pretty amazing to look at how we have grown and developed in that time. 

 

As many of you know, neither of us have any formal photography education.  We are hobbyists turned pro after receiving much support and encouragement from friends and family.  With any luck, next year at this time, our answer to the often asked ‘education’ question will be different, because Judianne has made the commitment to study for and become a Certified Professional Photographer by next year at this time!

    

In order to achieve this status, she will have to pass a comprehensive written exam measuring her technical expertise, successfully submit samples of her work to a panel of judges for review and approval, and abide by a professional code of ethics.  Once certified, she must re-certify through the Professional Photographic Certification Commission to show that she is maintaining a high level of technical and artistic competency.

 

We are both excited and, honestly, a bit overwhelmed at that thought of this – especially now as we are set to begin our busiest time of the year.  But, we are committed to the journey, so in the end we can deliver an even better product to all of you.  Of course, we will keep you updated on her progress along the way. 

 

To all of you who have been a part of our journey so far – Thank You!  It has been our pleasure serving your photography needs, and it would be our privilege to do it again in the future.

Lessons Learned in 2008

As we get ready to close out 2008 and welcome 2009, we found ourselves reflecting on this past year.  We met so many great people and experienced so many great moments with all of you.  It seems an appropriate time to take a few minutes and share some of the things we have learned. 

 

One of the first lessons we learned, or perhaps really confirmed, this year is that on-location photography is not a sedentary occupation.  It requires:

• much strength (have you lifted our camera bag lately?),
• dexterity and balance (we should really have a degree in rock climbing by now), and
• a sense of adventure (the best spots are never easy to get to).  

Among the many things we have learned this year, here are some of the most important. 

 

• There is nothing better than the feeling of anticipation in those last days before a new baby arrives, except (of course) the feeling of holding your newborn baby for the first time.
• Love can, indeed, be captured in a photograph:
  • the love a parent has for a child,
  • the love between siblings,
  • the love a grandparent has for a grandchild, and
  • the love a groom has for his new bride.

As important as it is to photograph the beautiful bride on her wedding day, it is just as important to capture:

• her sister’s reaction when she sees her in the wedding gown for the first time, and
• her mother’s reaction when she sees her “baby” dance for the first time as a married woman.

High school seniors are so busy and are pulled in so many directions these days.  It is nice to be able to give them a small break from everything – time to celebrate what they have become and reflect on what lies ahead.

Recording family moments is too important to wait until you “have” the time . . .  make the time!

The art of portraiture is the perfect combination of the “well posed pictures” and those “moments” captured.

Finally, we have learned that we have many reasons to be grateful, and we are so grateful for our ability to give back to an organization that we believe in whole-heartedly – the March of Dimes.

Welcome to More "In Focus"

Hello and welcome to our new blog - More “In Focus” with Demers Photography  – a spin-off from our quarterly E-newsletter.  Having a blog allows us to share information with you more often.  It also gives us a place to have a little fun with pictures, tips, contests . . . . whatever we are thinking of at the time.
 

We hope this will be much more interactive than either our website or newsletter in order to help you get to know us better.  So - be sure to bookmark our page and check back regularly to see what’s up.  You are always welcome to leave a comment to tell us what you do or don’t like or suggest topics for future discussion.  We, in turn, will make a commitment to you to enter new posts at least weekly – more frequently as time permits.
